loss

Alcohol

Are you my friend

Or my enemy?

After almost 23 years

Of life

I am still trying

To figure out

You took with you

My father's spirit

And left us

With a broken man

Yet I know

In my heart

That he took comfort

In you

That you sooth

His soul

That you take away

All his misery

Draining him

As he drains you

Until the last drop

So, tell me something

Will you come for me next?

You know I

So often crave

For my weak heart

To go numb

But I must say

I am afraid

Of the bigger mess

You can make of me

Perhaps saying yes

To you

Is just something

I cannot afford

This poem is very deep in terms that the person is in pain and has no source of relief or hapinness about the loss of her father.
