Loss and Growth

My situation is bluntly strange,

It took me a lot of time to think and rearrange,

I contemplated what was best for us,

A family that was history,

A family of what was,

For when I noticed that things no longer fit,

I told my parents it was time to split.

Though they say to wait when your youngest is done with school,

I knew that the thought of waiting was heavy on the soul.

Although we cried and the healing was slow,

The separation allowed us to grow.

By guiding the decision I felt more mature,

For this decision was healthy and left us less sore.

Although the process involved change and dismay,

I now know what choices I should never make.
