Lost and Found

In a salt and sand summer haze,

In a gray-blue gust of wind,

In one moment, stuck in sepia silence,

I lost you.

Friendship bracelets and straight blonde hair,

Crop top and converse,

Yellowing at the corners of my memory

Like an old book.

Sandcastles.

Pillow forts.

Adventures.

Images, but not narratives.

Those are gone.

Whispers.

Yes, I knew her.

Yes, I heard about that.

No, we don't speak much anymore.

And if I saw you, would you speak?

Because now you are perfect,

And fading,

And gone.
