Lost Believer

"Tat Tvam Asi"

Thou art that

We behold what we become

and we become what we behold

Go beyond conditions of Maya

Time, space, and causality

Life cannot threaten such a person,

all it holds is opportunity,

to love, to serve, and to give.

Varuna, Agni, Indra

Brahman, Atman, Dharma

Samsara, Moksha, Karma

Purpose rather than chance

We aren't punished for our anger

We are punished by our anger.

Profound piece of mind

Those who are motivated only by desire,

for they are constantly anxious

about the results of what they do.

Sattva, Rajas, Tamas

What is the force that binds us to selfish deeds?

What power moves us even against our will as if forcing us?

The self in us is not touched by action,

Those who do not seek to serve are without a home in this world.

How can they be at home in any world to come Arjuna?

The wise do not look for happiness in them,

he desires nothing else cannot be shaken by the heaviest burden."

Maybe Hinduism isn't my religion,

but it speaks from beyond the human mind,

beyond moons, stars, and galaxies.

Yet still, it lings upon the lips

Of a lost believer.
