The Lost Fisherman
Poetry is the opinion
I dare not voice
In a world constantly changing.
Poetry is the canvas
Where every abstract stroke of my paintbrush appears
Despite the enormity of the ‘big picture’.
Poetry is the track
That I am able to run on
Without having to follow a clear trail.
Poetry is the song
I can sing in alto or tenor,
In bass or soprano,
Without being able to read sheet music.
Poetry is the parent
Is the sister,
Is the brother,
Is the friend,
That will accept me
When the people that should love me most do not.
Poetry is a category
So open and broad
That anyone can participate.
Poetry is a force
So formidable and strong,
It can move masses
By simply existing.
Poetry is the weapon
That anyone can learn to use
To protect themselves.
Poetry is the food
That provides sustenance
To the starving.
Poetry is the shoulder
That the weak and desolate can cry on
Without fear of rejection.
Poetry is the picture
That we take of ourselves
That provides us with a new perspective.
Poetry is the love
That anyone can find
Without needing a partner.
Poetry is the vehicle
Carrying its passengers
To lands of milk and honey.
Poetry is the dream
That may not have a true meaning
But still occurs.
Poetry is the road
Anyone can walk down,
No matter what they are
Because poetry does not discriminate.
Poetry is a life raft
That rescues me
When I am lost at sea.
And this is why I write it.
