Lost Generation

The mentality of a nation, a forgotten generation.

To change it, propel it, simply redefine all that we are;

 these are my greatest desires.

The voices of the elders relay the message

that we are the lost ones.

Too far gone, too fucked up, to so eloquently put it.

Passively admitting their part in the failure,

 for losing the lost ones,

but as you follow with no action, my dear,

why would I ever think you care?

But as present day has approached and our futures are rolling in,

the lost children have grown up,

and to allow those who altered our beginning to bring detriment to our end

would be our most fatal poison to say the least.

So I crave to take these minds between my palms,

condemning these ten fingers to sculpt them

like Michelangelo to the clay.

 Molding the mentalities of today

so the leaders of tomorrow and the children of the future

don't repeat what has been brought upon us.

We, darling, are the most beautiful discoveries,

sculptures among the ruins, yet to come.

But prior to the unearthing of our virtue as a whole,

our mentality must be worthy.

We must be educated, we must be humbled.

We must understand what is important

and the immensity of our power in this universe,

as well as the lack thereof

and when we must submit to a higher entity.

Twitter and Instagram brainwash and distract,

role models like Rihanna and Kim Khardashian

leave the extremely wrong impression intact.

Drugs, sex, and money are our gods.

Where, my God, will we get with that?

Everyone's lost in their own worlds,

entrapped by their own minds, but say nothing.

Not living, only existing.

Our physical impressions are all that matter,

and unless you are pretty or dying,

rich or famous, no one seems to care.

Where did our values go?

I'm dying for someone to tell me.

So please change with me.

Not for me, but for us.

I long for better days,

to be proud of my generation.

No one owes us a thing;

we must bring a sense of community,

a moral of compassion,

an innate need to excel,

some type of respect for our brothers and sisters.

Bring me positivity, envision a future of prosperity.

The light is edging to the surface.

Make our time here matter.

If there is no type of legacy,

only remaining ashes and desperate voices in the wind,

what was our purpose?

What was the point?

As a people, as a nation,

as the lost generation,

if we don't prevail, who's fault will it be?
