Lost piece.

Sixteen years of family turmoil. Eighteen years alone in peace.
When I got back to the land of oil. I questioned... Am I a lost piece?
I see my brother..... Our soles catch fire. Instantly, we're kids again swinging on a tire.
I see my sisters tears....she is so grownup.. so beautiful...What happened to the years?
I see my father...so much older...so frail. I can't wait to tell him "Father I did not fail"
We're all different but it feels the same. I wondered....are they mad because I go by a different name? My father laughs "Ace!?"....You've always been an "Ass!" to me. No wonder the eighteen years felt so free.
Awkward laughs fill the room. My sister's grip says welcome home. Shes always been the flower that never failed to bloom.
My brother shook his head, looked at me and said "we're out of bread" "Lets go down the street." Walking to the bakery together was always a treat.
Every thing is strange, yet so familiar.  He's so much older and still I see his baby face. How peculiar.
We reminisced and laughed. He pulls out a cigarette, lights it while he coughed.
He looked so familiar yet strange. It didn't matter, we were so happy, like birds freed from a cage.
We run into my best friend setting outside a coffee shop, in this August heat. I sit a cross the board, check mate him, like we never missed a beat.
He smiles at me, gets up, gives me a big hug. "It's good to see you! You old thug!" Oh.... the fights we got into. Beating their  ass was always our virtue.
What a big puzzle this is, I fit in with such ease. I finally belong, I never knew I was a lost piece
