The Lost River

At the Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj,

I had a problem I could not solve -

I did never find the Saraswati river

Merging with the Yamuna and the Ganga.

I have spent years asking myself why.

Recently, at Siddhpur near Patan,

I stood on the dry and garbage littered bed

Of the once wide Saraswati river.

I did not know this river at all.

It had stopped flowing around 2600 BCE.

Misguided,

I was looking for the Saraswati  river,

At the wrong place.
