The Loudest Silence
I am stuck up.
I refuse to talk to you.
I won’t even look you in the eye.
Must be because I’m too cool for you.
I laugh with my friends,
But I’m silent around you.
There is no other explanation,
It’s plain and simple: I am rude.
But is that the truth?
I am an introvert.
The only voice I have I keep inside my head.
Eye contact makes my cheeks turn pink.
Must be because I’m insecure.
I have not one friend,
I need to come out of my shell.
There is no other explanation,
It’s plain and simple: I am a loner.
But is that the truth?
I am shy.
I never raise my voice.
Looking you in the eye gives me the attention I don’t like.
Must be because I’m afraid of you.
I have one or two friends,
But that small group excludes you.
There is no other explanation,
It’s plain and simple: I am unsocial.
But is that the truth?
I am a good listener.
What you say, I hear.
I don’t need to have my eyes on you to feel the pain you feel.
Must be because I understand you.
I am everyone’s friend,
That will always include you.
There is no other explanation,
It’s plain and simple: I am thoughtful.
That is the truth.
