Love...

Whenever he heard “I Love You” he smiled

But he never dared to repeat it

When she felt happy, those words were repeated

But the reply was always the same

The dance continued for a few years

She whispered those words once again followed by “I Do”

Again, a smile followed by “I Do”

The first cry was heard throughout the hospital

Although it was a cry, she heard it as a melody

He heard a symphony and thought there were many to come

She again whispered those words he avoided

He responded with a smile and a kiss on her forehead

Second time in the same hospital

Expecting another cry

Doctors walked in with their heads held down

She was paralyzed, soulless.

He was in tears

At home those cries became screams and screeches

A year and a half later in the same hospital

Preying to hear a new cry but

Again the doctors walked in with their heads held down

Her soulless body and eyes had no reaction

She was intact

His eyes teared up more as the seconds passed

He hugged her and kissed her forehead

Those screeches that she heard and dispised became mute

She was sitting there, soulless. Gazing at the young one sleeping

Those eyes cold as steel attracted him.

He got up, hugged her, and kissed her forehead

Followed by “I Love You” and with tears in his eyes.
