Love

Love

This poem was inspired by my cusion Tina’s FaceBook note “The Meaning of Love”. In the note, she listed answers 4-8 year olds gave when asked what love was.

You could say these are mine. This poem does not rhyme, and it’s very long. Once I got started defining love, I couldn’t stop. In my journal, it takes a little over three and a half pages.

#72 “Love”
Love is when God forgives you for every wrong thing you’ve ever done
Every pain you’ve ever caused
Every lie you’ve ever told

Love is when your mom will sit out of a ride at an amusement park
Just because she knows you can’t go

Love is when your dad rents the same movie for ten years
Just because he knows its your favorite

Love is your brother playing inside with you in the summer
Because he knows you can’t keep up with him outside

Love is your sister telling you that all she wants for Christmas is to spend a whole day with you

Love is when your best friend calls and hears you crying
So she drops everything and comes over

Love is when your best friend comes home from college for a weekend
Meets you at the mall and doesn’t buy anything
She just walks around talking to you

Love is watching a one year old hug and kiss a Minnie Mouse doll

Love is an e-mail from your boyfriend asking you how your day was

Love is 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

Love is having a kitten nicknamed “shadow”
Because she follows you everywhere
Even to the bathroom

Love is having an aunt who brings you back things from Disney World each time she goes.
Because she knows how much you love it
But your wheelchair keeps you from going with her

Love is your mom taking off work to go to Shriner’s with you.

Love is your dad scaring your school to death
For daring to try to leave you out of a field trip
Because you’re a “liability”

Love is a card from your grandma signed
“Love and prayers”

Love is your grandma saving her bracelet for you for twelve years

Love is Daisy forgiving Donald for all his tantrums.

Love is when Thumper gets kissed in “Bambi”
And he turns all red

Love is when you cry and your kitten cuddles with you
And licks a few tears away

Love is
Mandisa’s “Not Guilty”
The Carpenters’ “Merry Christmas, Darling”
Diane Warren’s “Exceptional”
Mariah Carey’s “Whenever You Call”
Michael Jackson’s “Heal The World”
And Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings”

The ultimate expression of love was
When a faultless man chose to be nailed to a cross
So He could save the whole world
