Love Is...

Love is infinite

An untimely emotion

Sweeping us off our feet

Reluctant as we may be

Letting us understand the meaning of ecstasy

Love is what we live for

Where we feel at home

Intertwined in a lover’s embrace

Hushed by the drumbeat of two hearts as one

This is our ultimate goal

Love is a physical emotion

You feel it

The tingle in your tummy

That twinge when they look your way

It’s so intense and strong,

It makes its way from fantasy to reality

 Love is understanding

It is the flaws we see when we look in the mirror

Simple imperfections we believe to have ill-intent

But in truth, they are our beauty

They are what make us unique

Love is welcoming

It is being accepted,

No matter who or what you may be

It is that warm thought that starts in your head

Making its way to your fingers and toes

Letting you know everything will be okay

Love is undying

No matter how hard we wish it away

We can try to ignore it,

Maybe even believe it died long ago

But it is forever engraved into your memory

Never truly letting them leave us

Love is controlling

It keeps us in a cage as big as the world

Until our will becomes that not of our own

And we are consumed

Blinded by the beauty of it all

Love is overwhelming

It’s when you hold your new baby sister for the first time

And promise her you’ll always keep her safe

It’s what pushes us too far to look back

When we’ve too naïve to even notice a change

Love is beautiful

And if pure, it is kind

But if it is tainted

By jealousy or deceit,

It transforms into a fiery demon

Scorching our being,

Leaving a charred, burnt bit.
