Love

Do you hear the beating? It comes and goes like the

Ticking of a grandfather clock in an abandoned house.

The body of the sound fills the halls of what once

Was you and me. Do you hear the beating? It’s

Getting louder and louder like the roar of water

turning on when no able bodied person flicked on the

Faucet. That beating continues through and

Through the wind and rain and thunder that

Cataclysm that shakes our dwelling. More

Powerful than an earthquake and more fierce

Than a wildfire. You should feel it now. The

Beating that you feel now reverberates

Through your bones and stills the blood.

It screams in your ear and all movement stops.

Pauses. A pause happens. Thump-Thump-

Thump. Stops. Thump-Thump-Thump

Eyes wide and head turning, sweat drips

Down slowly. Because you know that the beating,

That sound, was once beating for you.
