Love After Abuse

I cry alone in the dark

My tears fall to the floor like shards

Of glass.

My heart?

It’s gone, replaced with this aching black hole.

My senses are numb

I wish I could not feel, and yet

Am I truly feeling?

I thought he loved me

Or did I?

He was everything they said I should

Want.

But I don’t want these bruises

On my arms

And on my heart.

You lift me from where I kneel

With lovingkindness heal my heart.

For You loved me

Even as I chased him.

Your hand is gentle, Your heart is kind.

You trust me,

I trust You.

Even as I scream and rant and cry

You are faithful to me.

You love

When I don’t know what love is.

Even as I draw away from Your touch

For fear of the pain.

You will never let me feel that pain again

Even through my scars.
