Love and Let Go
How do I let go? It’s hard
To love myself when I fall so far
Can I love myself when others can’t forgive me?
Give me eyes to see
Clearly
He said it was too much for him to handle
Said that I had broken the vow
And the heart I gave to him, lay on the floor again
It bleeds
Even now
Lord, tell me why I tried so hard to show him
How much I loved him, but it still wasn’t enough
How can I love myself completely
When he couldn’t even stay with me?
Not even for love
I thought you told me love was never ending
That as long as we both tried, it’d be okay
But the doubts consumed my mind
And then he left me far behind
I drove him away
And even after that I tried to reach him
My love for him was stronger than my fear
But he said it was too late
No, he didn’t want to wait
For me
Although I know I will not choose another
Although I am grateful for what we had
It hurts that he is done
No second chances, I get none
Not even one
Lord, tell me why he told me that he loved me
Yet when I caused him pain, he wanted to move on
He said he’d always try, and I told him, “So will I”
And now he’s gone
Tell me why
After all these years, why can’t he trust me?
Can’t he see my mind is different from my heart?
Although I struggle with myself
I loved just him and no one else
Now we’re torn apart
He says he wants us to try others in the future
As if I can stand the thought of someone else
He may meet a girl and then
Fall in love over again
But not myself
God, you know I’m fine with being single
You know that You’re the only one I need
But I just don’t understand this
God, why would you have planned this?
Show me please
I meant it when I promised him forever
I meant it when I told him I was his
And though to him I broke the promise
I cannot help but be honest
I am his
This is the type of love I learned from Jesus
Who gave us the free will to stay or go
He suffered for our sake
Gave us the choice whether or not to take
His love
And now I know I love him unconditionally
And now I know I want him to be happy
So I have to let him go
If he moves on, it must be so
I set him free
And regardless of whether he forgives me
I have decided to forgive myself
It was not my fault, for I
Had thoughts too crazy to defy
Until now
I realize now that I have tried my hardest
To overcome my inner demon’s cry
That I’m worthless to the bone
That I am meant to be alone
That I should die
And now I can say I fully love myself
And now I can say I fully trust my heart
It was a shame you had to leave
When the very best of me
Was about to start
Perhaps you will forget me in the future
Perhaps you’ll maybe want to try again
But regardless of your choice
I have found my inner voice
Amen
