Love and Patience

Recently, I have noticed that the only time you are on my mind, is when I am in the deepest form of sleep. When reality is forgotten, and I am back in the state of mind I have been avoiding. I gave myself to you whole-heartedly, completely, and without a second thought. You might not have realized it, but you had the ultimate power to destroy every piece of me that I have built in my life, with just four words.

"I don't love you." It was the first time I had ever heard someone say that to someone else. I have been told that love is a feeling, and since feelings change, people do fall out of love. However, when someone chooses not to love you, even when the feeling is gone, that is when true heartbreak happens. I chose to love you everyday, and I was not prepared to stop loving you, even after you left and took my love with you. You broke me down to my core. You broke every promise you swore to me. You left me to pick up my own broken pieces. I guess no one ever taught you to clean up the messes you make.

But you see, my love, that is the most dangerous way to break someone. Eventually, the pieces of me you broke, I will have picked them up, and even rebuild the ones you took from me. And when that day comes, I will have built another layer of my heart. Not as a wall against the world, but a layer solely of love and patience. Because through all of this, love and patience is what I needed to have for myself.

So I thank you. Not for breaking me, but for allowing me to realize my worth and what I deserve is far greater than what you could have ever given me. This world is full of people who are full of promises, that not all can be kept. But the one promise that everyone should keep locked away deep within the layers of their heart, is the promise to always have love and patience for themselves.
