love and roses

Is love like a red red rose?

as the writers have said,

in lines of lyrical prose

and poems stitched in thread.

there are better metaphors,

different ways to be described.

anything can be used, of course

but rose may be best besides.

red for passion, affection

thorns for hurt and pain

petals soft like down from dove

to mask the hidden strain

i suppose love is like they say

a wilting rose in a sweet bouquet
