For the Love of a Daughter

One day we’re fine

The next is a war

The inconsistency kills me

I asked you to change

And you promised you would

A constant revolving circle

What is a lie?

What is the truth?

Do you even care anymore?

I thought I knew you

But clearly I don’t

And I guess I never will

I wish you were here

Holding my hand

Like things used to be

But now you’re gone

Not exactly for good

But gone from my heart

I asked for one thing

For you to try

And to care enough to try

But all that matters

Is yourself and the snake

Under which the covers you lie

I tried to fix things

I promise I did

But the effort was only one sided

I wanted to fix it

I wanted to try

But I lost all hope that I had

Will I regret it?

Will I miss it?

The world may never know

You put me through so much pain

And hurt me every day

The screaming crying torment that I suffered day by day

How could you lie

And treat us like this

When all you ever got was love

It all started back

In the years that passed

When the clouds crossed our sun

Things were raw

And hearts were broken

Once your conscience disappeared

All you bring is misery

So I block out the pain

And anytime you push my way I don’t know what to say

I wish you had changed

Or that things would have gotten better

Just the simple idea of forgiveness

But no, you never did anything

Or cared enough to try

Even for the love of a daughter
