Love Drought

I tried to continue loving you, but you never gave me a reason
“What are you doing, my love?”

Infidelity in a field I gave my all to
Fallacies in a meadow that has now perished
You asked me to rain down on your dehydrated petals because you’re withering away
Don’t imply light showers then make a storm
My hard rains and lightning assemble to pull you out of the ground by your roots
I will no longer harvest your seed with my dew of love and rays of joy
I can no longer give myself over to a flower who spreads their pollen to anything but me
You create genetic mutations with every field who is willing to have them
Their mulch dry and cracked,
yet you still go roots deep into their dirt
“Cause you, you, you, you and me can move a mountain”

Mother nature, I am.
I made you from nothing
I took you under my wing
I gave you life, but you destroy mines
Knife in my heart, rain down my cheeks
As I watch you go out,
fool around,
and cheat
You sneak fertilizers and hose water into our flower bed, expecting not to get caught
Well consider yourself red-handed
or should I say red petaled
Since you see yourself as a rose
But really you're nothing but a bundle of weeds
I don’t recall how you got here, but every time I cut you off
you came growing back
or maybe I should consider you a rose
The beauty of your petals distracted me from the thick thorns that were placed on your stem
Pain strikes anyone’s hand when they try to pick you
Including me
“You, you, you, you and me can calm a war down”

But that was my fault
I made a monster out of you
I created those thorns
Now it's time to rid them of
I trim your stem with my distant love
The warmth of bright light of engulfs you
Its heat suffocating your airway
“I tried to make darling. I promise you I did,
but you weren’t satisfied with me.
I’m sorry I couldn’t satisfy you.”
You cry out in agony
You became jealous
Because my happiness and success was too much for you
“Is it wrong to say that I still love you? Do I dare turn back and work it out? Regrow what has been dead for years?”
“You, you, you, you and me can make it rain now”

You thought I would rain every day
You thought my strange weather patterns would reflect my emotions
Snow one day, hail the next,
but all I have for you is Sun; for people to enjoy and for you to suffer in
Your stem, dry and thirsty
You clench your bed, wanting to taste me
Wanting to dive deep in my H2O
But I’m out of rain for you baby
We have reached the end of hideously beautiful love
“Only a fool would continue to make the same mistakes. Forgive me but I am no fool. Not anymore.”
“You, you, you, you and me can stop this love drought”

I’ve found another flower, in another field
A sunflower.
Who is just as beautiful and even more caring and gentle
A flower who lets my maternal nature caress his seed
He doesn’t need the help of fertilizers and processed water to get the
job done
He can predict my weather because he knows me
I let him get to know me
Because I am enough for him
And he’s enough for me
He gets my love
He gets my rain
While you suffer in my love drought
Farewell, my withering rose
