love is equal
his arms enclose me
i am trapped
he lets me go
i am trapped
he gives me "freedom"
i am trapped
he shows me all that is mine
i am trapped
he says i can go roam around all by myself
i am trapped
and he is there his eyes always watching
he assures me that i will be taken care of
he pretends my suffering doesn't exist
he nods as i scream kick punch against his prison bars
but we both know he isn't listening
we both know i am trapped
we both know i am a wanderer
a free spirit who cannot survive like this:
trapped, suffocated, protected to the breaking point
i am trapped
i am trapped
i am trapped
he tells me he loves me
and that he cares he listens he is my equal
but we aren't
he still doesn't listen
so when i yell for help, i don't yell for him
i yell for help to break free of him
and when i am free
my other half will be my equal
i will not be trapped
he will listen care protect—if i let him
i will not be trapped
he will share his secrets and burdens
i will not be trapped
he will say he loves me and actually mean it
i will not be trapped
he will trust and respect me
i will not be trapped
he will be there always without the bars and handcuffs
i will not be trapped
he will not control me
and i will not control him because a relationship involves two
we are equal halves
sharing the love protection burden
equally
so not one will feel trapped burdened controlled
