Love is Everything

The patter of feet echoed through the street

With shouts of excitement forcing their way through the cloud of fear-

“Attaboy” and “You found a breezer” and “Now I’m on the lam”-

With the leader, John, losing control to natural impulses

To run, to hide, to be anywhere but here,

Yet longing to be beneath her balcony;

Sophie, the wandering princess, lit his torch,

Lighting his path like a lantern

With John’s princess guiding him from the slammer, from finding a fall guy, from taking a ride

And John may be able to escape the pinch of the law’s claws

And live a long, lively life

But reality creeps into John’s fantasy, bringing him back to his senses

As sirens reverberate through the alley, forcing John to bid adieu

And dampen the flame of love to prevent possible detection

Or be forced to reveal his dark past to Sophie

And when the choice stares into his blue, conflicted eyes,

John runs from confrontation, afraid of what she will say, will do

When she knows the truth of John’s former days

So John begins running, with no destination, yet a mission to get away

And finds himself reunited with his gang and begins to come to the conclusion

That Sophie will forever be in his heart, that he will do anything to see her again and realizes

Love is everything.
