Love is given

Love is something given.
Freely, selflessly -
Without wanting in return.

Not a contest or a right.
It's something from within -
Not needing to be earned.

It is given to someone.
Friends, family,
Those close to one's heart.

It's not meant to belittle or tear apart.
Healthy love is not loud or angry,
And there are few shouted words.

Love is not uncertainty in being heard.
It listens, Not to reply or reprimand,
But to fully and completely understand.

It flows from fingertips
To holding hands.
And embraces us in warmth and care.

It never leaves one to wonder
If it was even there.
