Love Gives Purpose

If my love could buy another day with you,

I’d spend it without a second thought.

But my love couldn’t buy

gum from the gas station,

let alone time,

and I don’t need it to.

Because love doesn’t need a value.

Love is giving your heart to someone.

It’s them calling you at 3 in the morning

because they got awful news.

It’s visiting them after an argument because

you’re truly sorry for the things you said.

Love is them having a bad day

and giving them the space they need.

My love can’t buy gum.

My love can’t buy time.

But there’s no need for them

when love gives life a purpose.
