The Love That I See
Is it love that I see when one says to another, “I love you”? Or is it more than a word?
Is it love that I see when she feels giddy around him? Or is it more than a feeling?
Is it love that I see in a smile shared between them? Or is it more than that?
If love is an action, what does it look like? How will I know if the love that I see is genuine?
Is the love that I see measured in words? Is the love that I see measured in dating? Is the love that I see dependent on hugs?
The love that I see in the world is an enigma. The phrase “I love” is over used.
The love that I see in the world is confusing. “I love you,” he says. But he forgets it four months later.
“I’ll never leave you,” she swears, but she tosses it aside three years later.
Sometimes even, “I love you,” he whispers. But he only means at the moment.
“I love you,” she says, but she never meant that she would love him forever.
“I love you...” Lies are not Love.
Because I love you. I’ll stand by you in both good and bad, for better or for worse.
Because I love you, I’ll seek the best for both of us.
Because I love you, I won’t take advantage of you, but I will treat you as a dear relative.
Because I love you, I’ll pay attention to your interests.
Because I love you, I’ll put you first.
Because I love you, I’ll be willing to care for you.
Because I love you, I’ll lay my life down for you.
Because this is the love I see that will keep us together for life.
