A Love Letter, or How To Say Goodbye
To my love,
I wish there was a way to explain the unexplainable. I know you cannot stomach fear, something so unfamiliar and foreign to you, and that you are even more afraid of the unknown. I did not sit down to write this letter in the hopes that it would crush you. Rather, I am praying it finds you in good faith, and that you have eaten for the night and gotten ample rest.
I am somewhere far from home. I couldn’t tell you where if I tried, because I frankly do not know myself. But I am safe, and I am happy. Alas, I’ve lost a few parts of myself on my journey here. Places like the curves of my shoulders and the soles of my feet are quite marred and tired. I almost forgot the reason I came, until I remembered you.
To my love, I wish there was a way to explain how much you mean to me. The cadence of your voice is a song I think of often. It has kept me grounded for many years. What do I owe to such a man? One that has picked the gravel from the grooves of my palms when I fall over myself, one that has swept my hair from my eyes when I lost sight of the world, one that has kept me grounded when I start to float away. I will hold this devotion in the deepest chambers of my heart, even when I am so delicate and feeble the rest of me has gone.
In all, I am not leaving you alone. You have done so much for me that I vow to one day repay you for your efforts. I will come back to you, and you will know when I do.
Yours forever,
Em
