Love is not a Sparring Match

Because I love you

the world is strangely beautiful

There is nothing pitiful

It's almost like an exhilirating breakthrough

I will cherish your smile

my precious lily of the nile

I will not bruise your heart with unsentimental words

Nor struck you with a pointed sword

I'll love you on the hardest days

And on the loveliest days of May

Your tears I shall catch

because love is not a sparring match

My soul is entwined with yours

For you are the one I can't help but adore

And only life knows what it's in store

But I promise there will be no civil war

Love is imperfectly magnificent

and definitely significant
