A Love Poem About Myself by Myself for Myself

It is okay to love myself

The catch in my breath

---when you say something surprising

My collarbones

My flat feet

My little hands

My tell-all eyes

It is okay to love myself

How it’s so hard for me

to accept a compliment

How I apologize for everything

—things out of my control

The permanent pout in my lip

The gap in my teeth

The way I overcommit

Overload my to-do list

It is okay to love myself

My easy smile

My timid voice

when speaking to strangers

The contrasting shout

when surrounded by familiar faces

The way I pay attention to everything

—everything

I will not contribute

to romanticizing self-hatred

I want to fall in love with myself

every day

Hug my curves, hug my skin,

this is the one I’m stuck in

It is okay to love myself

It is okay to love yourself

Love yourself
