This Love is Premature

I sit there unmoving as you talk at me, Reluctantly attempting to understand your loud language. Blunt words bombard me like stones, And bruise my heart to the point of aching. I want to punish myself for disappointing you, But this is how I feel. Don’t tell me this love is premature. I never knew how hard it would be, To hold back these lead tears from spilling over. If only you really knew, How lovely and fragile my heart has become. You would be proud to see how I’ve grown. So please don’t tell me, This love is premature. Tonight I will pray that the sky will clear up, And that the fog will lift from your eyes. You judge me because of your past, So please don’t push me into your future. These things need to happen. So that I know with all my being, That this love is not premature.
