Love in Progress
Because I loved you I stopped spending time on myself
I started wasting away waiting on you
waiting for the next glimpse of your smile
forgetting to sleep and eat
remembering to cry
I was so wrapped up in make you laugh
I forgot to tell you why
that's not love
this is my life
you are merely a sweet passerby
but at some point I need to come first
your smile keeps me going
but my words keep me safe
I want to tell you my nightmares
to show you my pain
explain the scars and every fear behind them
but I don't love you
I cannot be open to you
I can't be honest with myself
I long to see your smile
your warm embrace calming my nerves
but you won't ever know
I want to love you
to tell you everything that plagues my being
so that you might understand
but I don't want to scare you
you have your life and I'm honored to have been a part of it
but for now I set you free
I'm a work in progress but someday I will find you
Because I love you
