This is Love: A Reverse Poem
This is love.
Everything you think you know about love is wrong
They're outright wrong
Love is the sum of the scars we wear,
Can't you see that people who say
Love should be equal and fair
Obviously don't know
That most who have been abused
These hurt souls cannot see love as any other facet than being used
I'm not here to accuse
But is that not what love is about
Jealousy, infidelity, and late nights out
Not
Loving unconditionally or loving in spite without doubt
Without a doubt, the following tenets should be at the core of any good relationship:
An intricate web of lies, and a heart so filled with repressed malice you come to despise.
You should never be entwined in
a net weaved by grace, lest they're just lying to your face
Owning up to your mistakes and holding on to hope and
I just can't believe that people could see love as anything else but
a poison that creeps in and tears your soul in two
That's why we cannot fall into this trap and think love is
Special and unique
This is what love is though
Deceit and repeat
I know from personal experience.
This is what unconditional love looks like.
I see who you really are and I don't even have to know you
The liar, the cheat, the one who left a family, the one who took the easy way out
You're not solely defined by the past or the labels
The hater, the abuser, the hypocrite, the snake
On top of that you are not
worth it
I wholeheartedly believe you are
Everything I say
This is who you are.
But this is the unequivocal truth.
There's someone out there who'll understand us and be there when we need them.
I can't believe that....I just can't believe that
Anybody is capable of honesty and faithfulness
To those who would say you need to distrust the ones you love
You are absolutely right.
Respecting boundaries, accepting one another's inhibitions and inclinations, being patient
If you think this is love
Then you're wrong
