The Love of Running

I love running so much it’s
like the smell of dinner wafting from the kitchen after a long day out,
like the scent of my grandmother’s sweet perfume,
like the smell of a campfire.

Like the feeling when you ace a test,
like the moment of joy when your food finally arrives at a restaurant,
like the feeling after helping someone in need.

Like the taste of Halloween candy,
like the flavor of food from the room service of a five-star hotel,
like the taste of Thanksgiving dinner.

Like the sight of your friends after summer vacation,
like the view of a magnificent sunset,
like the sight of brightly wrapped presents under the tree on Christmas morning.

Like the sound of a baby’s laugh,
like the hum of a cat purring,
like the sound of waves crashing on the sandy beach.

Like the feel of new sheets on your bed,
like a hug from a loved one,
like the feeling of hot soup run down your throat.

Like the sound of running shoes hitting the ground,
like the feeling of a good stretch before a run,
like the calming back and forth motion of swinging ponytails.
