Love is Selfish
It feels safe in his arms. Laying my head on his chest.
His heart ponding "I love you. I love you. I love you"
Safe and true.
A mantra.
I look into his eyes and I see a glimmer
A glimmer that dances to the beat of
"I love you. I love you. I love you"
His lips say I love you when he kisses my cheek
His hands say I love you when he brushes the hair from my face.
I hear him in my mind
chanting "I love you. I love you. I love you."
I wake in the morning to the cold November frost
And I shuffle down to the cemetary
And I see his tomb stone
On it is engraved "I love you"
And I stand there in silence
just as I have done every morning for the years since he died
There is only "I love yous"
I do not move on
because I love you
The world stops turning and I stay stagnant
whispering
"I love you, I love you, I love you."
