Love Today

Love is a very powerful word,

But today we toss it around carelessly because the lines are blurred,

Don’t tell me you love me when you don’t even know my middle name,

I know what you really want, and it isn’t my heart that you will gain,

I don’t want to hear that you’re falling in love with my pretty little face,

That doesn’t attract me, I am much more than that, I also have brains,

We aren’t in love if we just text everyday for a month or so,

A relationship should be face to face, didn’t you know?

You can’t call it love when you only know my obvious favorite things,

It was a good try, but you don’t know me that well, and I won’t be one of your flings,

You shouldn’t say I love you again, even if we have had any sort of past,

It clearly didn’t work before, what makes you think this time it would last?

I only want to hear that you love me if you have taken the time to get to know me,

I know my worth and I won’t settle for someone who throws around the word so carelessly,

I’ve done it in the past but never again, you could say that I was coy,

But that’s my fault for passing up on a gentleman, and settling on a boy.
