love is the ultimate lie

one thing I don’t get

is how you can love someone

yet treat them so poorly;

dragging their name

through

razors and fire

through

pills and splintered wood

through

hell

how can you make someone

feel loved when

you’ve already mangled

their corpse

yet they keep coming back

for another charade

for another trip to hell

for another ride in the death cab

with a front row seat of impalement

from a giant metal rod;

that goes straight

through their

heart.

yet they keep coming back for more.

stop being the addictive drug they

think they need.

stop being what they

think they deserve.

stop acting like everything from you

is god-sent.

stop talking on their

grave.

they have given up their life

for yours.

they have boxed themselves

for you.

they have gift-wrapped themselves in expensive makeup and tears

for you.

they have gone through the sadness and the pain and the heartbreak every time you speak

for you.

they have cut and resewn themselves

for you.

they have looked at endless magazines and mimicked thousands of people

for you.

they have degraded and hated themselves

for you to be there.

and you weren’t.

they wasted their time on you

for fear of being alone.

Don’t act like God-almighty

Because tonight, honey,

you’re not getting any.
