Love Unreciprocated
I love you.
Even if you don’t love me back, I’ll still love you.
Even if you claw and fight and whine and yell, “I don’t need you!”, I’ll always love you.
But I won’t force you to love me back.
I won’t ask for favors big or small, even though you constantly demand them from me.
I’ll ask to spend time with you, but if you refuse, I’ll let you be.
I love you so much it hurts.
It hurts to love you and know that I’m giving my heart away, bit by bit, piece by piece, to someone who won’t care at all.
But it’s all okay, because I still love you.
Maybe, years from now, when I’m dead and gone and the best of your years have trickled away, you’ll find it in your heart to appreciate the love I had for you.
But that’s then and this is now.
Because I love you, until the day I die, I will stay committed to you.
I will help you even when I don’t feel like it, I will hold you when you cry, I will be there for you whenever I possibly can, I will.
I love you.
And love isn’t passive. It’s active. It takes work. It’s the hardest thing anyone in all of man’s history has ever done.
It takes a choice to love.
My choice: to love you unconditionally.
