In Love We Shall Never Part
I never thought this day would come. The white washed room with many intricate devices beeping and hissing, almost as if ticking away her life. I grasp my wife’s bony hand, my tears deluging onto the cotton draped over her frail body. She grips me tight despite her weakness. Our eyes meet one more time and she too weeps for I am the last thing she will ever see in this world. With her dying breath she murmurs, “To death do us part, my love.” I refuse to comply and kiss her on the forehead, chilling my lips. “No, we shall never part ways.” The machines have now silenced their choir of the dying for good. But her smile remains with her until parting ways with the Earth.
