love, what is it?

love

a subject of which most are misinformed

initially one might think of it as a dove

pure, strong, leaving the heart warmed

and it is

it is all of those things

but most people misinterpret

those delicate feelings

love isn’t when your sweetheart goes out

on a wednesday with her friends

while you sit at home and pout

raging thoughts of her with other men,

and thats how her night will end

jealousy,

that is what that is called

it is a fire in your heart

but it will tear you apart

along with everything you two evolved

tracking locations and constant texts

crying in separation, nagging for sex

nothing matters but their moods to impress

obsession.

but is that love?

no.

jealousy and obsession both lay disguise

with a twisted web of feelings and lies

where it appears to be hope and love,

all in your heart

but everyday it will eat you, it will tear apart

it is like a ravenous wind

it is cold

it is harsh

it will break you, form a mold

you will find yourself a dead heart

wrapping rotting fingers around her beating heart.

you will spend an eternity of anger and fear,

rage in your heart, torturing the one you want near.

is this love?

does this obsession give time to breathe.

does jealously trust and not constantly need?

what is love?

is it a crippling body latched, fear is its goal

or is it joy reaching for a melding of souls?

this is love,

it is a sacrifice.

it is putting yourself on the line daily.

your pleasure, anger, and fear.

for the heart the you hold dear.

it is listening, holding, helping, sees clear

it learns patience, not anger

it holds hope, not fear

love looks past flaws

love is not pain that gnaws

love does not follow blindly

love helps the other kindly.

love forgives.

love trusts.

love endures.

love is not chocolates and roses.

it is not the friction of skin under stars,

not salacious naked poses

and a brand new car

love is taking a cold shower so the other can have hot.

love is saying sorry first.

love is standing in the way of the gun shot.

it is living with a heart with joy that is trying to burst.

without love, there is only selfishness.

to find love, put yourself second.

show care, faithfulness, kindness.

you will know it when you feel it.

it is beautiful, without flaw, a dove.

and that, is love.
