Love Will Set Us Free

My mother always said love will set you free.

But she was wrong

I was in love for 3 years of my life

A boywho’s characteristics were so defined

You could paint a portrait of him blindfolded

I remember his hands were like two cement blocks

Destined to weigh me down

His eyes were like glass

He used to see right through me

His mouth was a megaphone

Constantly broadcasting my failures to all those around us

His laugh reminded me of a women at a board meeting

That I would never be taken seriously

My mother always said love would set you free.

But my mother never loved him like I did.
