Love yourself

I was tall, long, and skinny.

Had a small face and uneven teeth.

Being smart was not a winning.

For it was being very pretty,

which had a winning

From 6th grade to a graduating senior,

I look myself in the mirror and still feel,

an emptiness feeling like a stomach without a meal.

Do I like myself I ask?

What is it about me I hate?

I am a good and trusting dauaghter.

I pass all my classes with A's.

Yet I find myself unable to shake,

the painful memories of the 6th grade.

You're too skinny

You're to tall

I don't want to play with you because you'll break!

When all I wanted to hear was;

You're so pretty.

I would love to have your body.

OMG can we be friends and go to the mall?

Now I look again in the mirror

and take a good look at my body.

I see not my 6th grade self but,

a strong, smart, and sexy woman,

ready to take the world by a storm, with my

gleaming self confidence.

I'm okay, I tell myself.

I love myself now,

and maybe I always have, but I've just been blinded by negativity

to see it.
