lovely on my own

i feel beautiful beneath your hand

the shapes drawn with the strong knuckles

on the soft of my stomach

i feel them even now

just anchoring me to life

even when i wish to be swallowed by the dark

your stiff hand brings me back

i feel loved head on your chest

the clockwork of you heart

clanging in my ear

forever clambering through my mind

something about you

just anchoring me to truth

even when i wish to be swallowed by the lies

your true heart brings me back

i feel safe in your reach

the strength of your embrace

teaching me of shelter

holding me only now in my slumber

something about you

just anchoring me to God

even when i wish to be swallowed by the world

your steadfast arm brings me back

now i feel beautiful and loved and safe

without you

i was all of this before

& i will be long after

without your hands, your heart, your arms

i am still me

i am still enough

thank you
