lover of mine

you were my one healthy habit
i looked forward to each day
each day i gave you my life
you hold my present, past, and future
your blood is now the ink in my pen--
the life force flowing in me
and oh you had a voice like silk,
lover of mine
and your hands were heavenly,
your skin was like honey
i sob at your body of rotten fruit and soil
lover of mine, i wish you still sang
a friction of vessels
a burst of warmth through the gaps
you are still flowing in me,
lover of mine
sweet sweet sap on the trees
an act of love, sticking to my fingers
your soft voice still sings in my ears,
lover of mine
but now you belong to the clouds,
you've swelled up in the rain,
in this earth you will play
this land is your home for good
your ghostly face appears in my dreams
across from my mine
on all those restless half drunk nights
on top of my roof, in secret
never have i imagined
a life without you
my missing piece of my puzzle
lost for so long
i fear i am too fragile
to make it any farther without you
and you were miserable but mine
despite our distance in time
but you've always fond comfort in solace
and i know
you did not cry,
lover of mine
i love you even while a lifetime away
