Loving Tree

Clouded by thoughts of who we are.

What we are meant to do.

Where we are meant to go.

You see, in life, sometimes things get confused

Misconstrued

Abused

Taken for granted

Preoccupied by glitter, jewels, and social media

So concerned with appearance and wealth you can’t see what’s in front of you

I’m only eighteen so what do I know?

Except for the fact that when I look back on my life

I know I will see one thing

Love

The love of my friends

The love of my family

The love of God

You see those jewels aren’t going to love you

That car isn’t going to love you

The number of followers you have isn’t going to matter

In my life, all I need is love

Because, the way I see it, the meaning of our life

Is to love and to be loved.

Anything else is merely stepping stones

Gusts of wind

Rocks

Mud

And amongst these objects, there are trees

Trees stand tall and strong

They last for hundreds of years

Even after everything else has died away

Trees give us oxygen

They protect us

They give us life

Like the children’s book, the tree gives to us.

Given the choice between a pretty rock and a tree.

I would choose the loving tree.
