Loving You is Dangerous
Loving you is dangerous
Because you are a mess
Your hands are moist,
holding them is like sticking mine in the ocean
Salty and heavy with a layer of film that never comes off
Remember
That time you baked cookies
You released them from the scorching oven, let them cool till warm
Piled those babies on that expensive glass plate my mother gave us
You sashayed over to me,
drenched in your natural sheen, rosed with pride,
And then you dropped them.
Your hands are water slides
Like the one at my aunt’s barbecue
Remember
, it was mid-July,
The sun a burnt orange
Your vision blurred to everything but opportunity
You exuded want,
Finally you would impress my family
All the adults were going through slip slide whatever,
The opportunity was in your sights
You slid through surfing style like the big Kahuna you are
Wild blue drops glittering
Everyone basking at your slip slide prowess!
And then you slipped
Somehow even you were to too slippery for that slide
Loving you is dangerous
Not just to you, but to me
Your accidental, constant curse
Your sweaty palms aren't the worst
They never caused me trouble
Neither splashed nor left salty puddles
They’re nice and real
Like an orange when squeezed a little
Sticky, shiny, rough, thick, encompassing, present
A reminder
Of who you are, of our closeness
Loving you is dangerous
Because you're no longer here, and all I can do is,
Remember
