Lullaby

It only lasts for a second

But that second it enough.

It's the sound of a familiar voice

Humming a familiar tune.

It is the forgotten piano

As it sits in the corner of your memory

It plays along to the melody,

As if it were never abandoned.

Almost frightening,

that familiar tune calls out in a whistle.

It is as if it is coming from the shadows.

Listen, only for a second.

See it in your reflection,

The burning in your eye cries to the tune.

You can hear it in your mother's voice.

It in the apparel of your brother;

That all-too-familiar melody.

It is in the very lie you just spoke,

It's also in the truth behind that lie.

The song of your past, present & future
