Relief.
That sharp sting lasts a second.
The vein inflates.
A hum of anticipation.

The cello winds through the body,
seeping through the eyelids
and turning an eye blind.
The piano means no harm.

Heat spreads aggressively through the system.
Symbols crash.
Bow strings snap.
All the while - a thump, thump, thump.

A consistent, steady, thump, thump, thump.
Shaking hands never miss a note.
The heartbeat clings to a rhythm.
Thump. Thump. Thump.

The body.
Too numb to notice its own trembling.
The brain, detached.
Symbols crashing, crashing, crashing.

The heart sprints while
veins pump liquid limbo.
The cello sweats while
a choral voice sings farewell.

A piano drifts away.
The choir quiets.
The violin’s bow has broken.
A still body remains.
