Ma

Madusu Jawara

IT'S ALL UP TO YOU (SCHOLARSHIP SLAM) Entry

I miss my mama or ma as we call her

I hope I’ve made her proud

I’m doing well ma, I wish you could see me

cook for me: fish, oil, pepper

Gravy

Tapalaba bread, full size

I dea (will) cry

I miss my mama or ma

You eased me into breathing again

I won’t be lost no more

Honestly, pride, I spell it out no matter what

I think I’ve moved past it

I’m proud of myself you know, conscious at ease and all

Ma gave me this: path and map

Let’s go a few years back

I hope things haven’t changed but

this place does that

I miss simple contentedness

I miss ma
