Machinations of the Mind

I can’t start the same way

Seeing the same faces everyday

Bored out of their minds,

Waiting, praying, begging

For a release that just doesn’t come.

We are all just cogs in a system,

A system of love and lies

Where every word is a drop of water

One misstep and the whole machine short circuits and fails.

I am lost among the machinations of the many

My mind wandering the seamless expanses of the known.

If everything has to make sense? Then why am I so confused.

Every friendship a new connection,

One which we traverse with care

For should that string be cut, or rope become knotted

There won’t be anything left to compare.

Gone is the innocence of childhood

replaced by immature rules

Of playground logic with behemoth enforcement.

The world stopped making sense the moment we saw the light

And to go back now is a fools errand,

Yet forward lies the machine.

Our secret knowledge has carried us this far

But at what terrible cost?

We know of a truth that cannot be used

A weapon without a trigger, a gun without a bullet.

To tear apart the mindless machine

Of madness and human pain.

We must cast our lot with the madmen,

But even they do not know our truth.

That this machine is run by a power

Too dark and terrible to destroy

It is you that drive the machinations of life

And only you can take it away.

But in doing so you wreck the system,

The one on which all your loved ones rely

A tantamount preparation of hopes and dreams

Can be destroyed with a blink of an eye.

Yet we will not stop,

The mindless march of machine

For we are the drivers of destiny

And it is better to dream in misery
