Made of Something Deeper
What makes me?
Many atoms drawn together, creating a solid mass.
Organs, bones, skin,
Eyes, nose, ears, hair.
But when you look beneath the outer shell,
I become something more than a being.
More than a living, breathing essence.
Deep beneath the outer layer,
One would see a girl,
Smiling, laughing.
Enjoying life and everything about it.
One layer deeper,
You see a pain behind each smile,
Each laugh
This girl still enjoys life
But everything isn’t all sunshine and no clouds.
For before every rainbow, there is a storm.
But everyday,
She puts on a smile,
Determined to make the best
Of every situation she’s confronted with.
It’s not the determination to be strong,
But when there’s no alternative,
Being strong is the only option.
So.
Deep breath.
Small smile.
A new day.
So, the making of me isn’t just what lays on the surface.
Me. I am made up of everything from the deepest fears I experience,
The greatest joys I feel.
I am made up of things deeper than skin and bones.
I am made up of not only my past, and present,
but my future.
This is what makes me.
