Madre maria
With shaky hands i painted my face
And pinned my hair with pearls
I adorned myself in lace and sparkly sandals
La virgencita laid on my smooth collarbones
I smiled at the mirror, waiting to be ready
I cried in my bed instead, hid under clouds of puffy white sheets
There is a light inside of me
And only sometimes, i can watch it breathe
Today, I did not glisten or gleam
I stared at the walls and wondered
If being a woman is all i will be

Your Poem's Voice
Personal identity struggle grounded in concrete self-adornment ritual.
Moderate density; cycles between sensory details and existential reflection.
Predominantly melancholic with moments of introspection; despair about identity.
Restrained, contemplative voice with emotional undercurrent rather than explosiveness.
Approximately 12 lines; fits 7-15 line range.
Metaphors of light, personification of breathing light, sensory imagery throughout.
Pure lyric introspection; intimate first-person internal voice dominating.
