Make A Difference
Words. Pages. Lines. Stanzas.
Meaning. Beliefs. Expression. Soul.
“These things can’t mean anything.”
“Look beneath – you’ll find it, I promise.”
Seeing the students find meaning,
Meaning that is deeper than themselves,
Meaning that changes who they want to be
- That’s my dream job.
To inspire students to care about punctuation,
To write fluent and cohesive paragraphs,
To strive to find the answer to a question themselves
- That’s my dream job.
Helping students fall in love with characters,
Watching them live life with the book,
Having them sink into the surreal soul of the page
- That’s my dream job.
It’s not about power, popularity, possessions or prizes,
It’s about those little, rare, moving “aha” moments with students.
Where they understand a plot, a person, a motive, an action.
Where they apply it to themselves and find a meaning deeper than they imagined.
Salary. Hours. Vacations. Bonus’.
None of that matters, no.
To watch a student:
Strive. Learn. Discover. Wonder.
I won't make the most money in the world,
But I can make a *difference*,
To know that by having them analyze a story I became a significant part in theirs
--That’s the one job that would make me happy.
